10 Christmas party games to guarantee merry guests

Group Of Friends Enjoying Christmas Drinks In Bar

Christmas party season is upon us, which means lots of parties, laughs, family and friends. With this in mind, what better way to get your guests in the festive spirit than hosting some fun games to see the night through?

We’ve rounded up eight easy to play party games that will give everyone a good giggle and a night they’re sure to remember!

What’s the song?

This game is simple, all you need is an iPhone, or a laptop and Spotify. Find a Christmas playlist on Spotify and split into teams. Put the playlist on shuffle; as soon as someone thinks they know what song is playing, they can shout it out. The aim of the game is to guess the most correct songs, the quickest. Make this game a bit more fun by introducing forfeits – a shot if you get the song wrong, or a sip if you’re on the losing team.

Christmas Head’s Up

Made famous by no other than Ellen DeGeneres, Heads up is guaranteed to bring some laughs to the party. You can play using the app or simply using post-it notes. If you fancy making it festive, why not use Christmas movie characters, singers, or actors? If you’ve not played before, the rules are simple. Players take it in turns to put the phone on their head, and try to guess what the app says through their team’s descriptions and actions. It’s fun (and very silly).

Reindeer ear ring toss

Incorporate some props into your Christmas party games with this inflatable reindeer ear ring toss game. The rules are simple – each player ties blow up horns to your head and attempting to throw rings over onto each other’s antlers. The winner is the person who gets all of the rings onto the other person’s antlers first.

Big fat quiz of the year

What could be better than looking back at the year gone by and turning major events into a fun Christmas quiz? Ahead of time, ask each player to come up with questions for different rounds; these could either be themed by what happened in each month, or on various topics – celebrity, politics, memes, etc. Split into teams, with the person who came up with the specific questions becoming the quizmaster changing each round. Questions could include:

  • How many Kardashian’s are there?
  • How many contestants were there on this year’s Love Island?
  • Which TV soap has had the most deaths in 2019?

How many Quality Street can you eat?

We all know about chubby bunny, but give it a Christmas twist by using Quality Street. Split into teams and challenge each other to fit as many chocolates in their mouth as possible – the person who can eat the most, wins. If you want to take the game one step further, introduce singing into the mix – take it in turns to try and hum a song while you’ve got your mouth full of chocolates, with the winning team being the one who guesses the most right.

Bauble and spoon race

If you’ve got some extra space in your home, you could relive your younger days from Sports Day and organise a bauble and spoon race – which is exactly like an egg and spoon race, only festive. Make sure your baubles aren’t breakable (don’t use your nan’s best glass ones!), split into teams and organise a relay race.

Jingle bell pong

Give beer pong a festive update by trading in your ping pong balls for some jingle bells or small baubles, and your beer for some Baileys or prosecco. The rest of the rules are the same – set up a triangle of glasses filled with booze at each end of the table, and take it in turns to launch a jingle bell into the other team’s cup. If you get it in, one of their team must down the content of the cup. The winning team is the ones who clear the other team’s cups the quickest.
