Revealed: The most popular holiday songs for 2020

If you’ve got the songs of the summer in your head, they’re probably making you want to plan your 2020 holiday.

Music and travel are a match made in heaven, and we couldn’t imagine anything worse than forgetting our headphones and speakers! Not only that, but the songs we hear on holiday stick with us for years after, and bring back memories that last a lifetime.

To get you in the holiday spirit, we wanted to uncover the most popular songs and artists for holiday makers and playlist planners of all time.

The research was carried out by CV Villas, which looked at 154,624 tracks on Spotify playlists that contain the words’ holiday playlist’, ‘beach playlist’, ‘summer tunes’, ‘summertime songs’ and ‘holiday playlist 2020’ to find the 100 most popular tunes.

As Spotify is one of the world’s leading playlist creation apps, thy used this as the basis for the research. They used various relevant playlists, with a selection of 7,028 to analyse, featuring over 154,624 tracks and 20,994 unique artists.

Piece of Your Heart features on 272 out of the 7,000 playlists that researchers analysed, Summer is on 235 playlists and Dance Monkey features on 218 playlists.

Alongside this, the research also revealed the songs set to be viral on your 2020 summer holiday. Take a look at the songs that will be played the most as you relax by the pool.

Researchers also looked at the most popular retro songs appearing on holiday playlists on Spotify and compiled a list of the top 10 classics to make the top 100.

The highest-ranked song is Mr Brightside by The Killers, followed by Africa by Toto in second and Earth, Wind and Fire’s September in third.

Fourth is Electric Feel by MGMT, fifth is the Bryan Adam’s track Summer of ’69 and sixth is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison.

Completing the top 10 is Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd (seventh), The Empire of the Sun track, Walking On A Dream (eighth), Island In The Sun by Weezer (ninth) and Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and the Wailers (10th).

When it comes to artists, there are a few that dominate the charts, with more than one song in the top 40 at one time. In the most popular artist list, the third most popular artist is Post Malone, featuring 1,187 times, Drake is fourth, with his songs appearing on playlists 1,109 times, and fifth is Avicii, whose songs pop up 1,062 times.

Also making the top 10 are Khalid (sixth, 923 times), Sticky Fingers (seventh, 856 times), Kygo (eighth, 801 times), The Chainsmokers (ninth, 796 times) and Ariana Grande (10th, 724 times).
